Sustainability and CO2 neutrality  ...

... neutrality were two of the most important criteria in the construction of our XL flats.

They are CO2 neutral because our house is supplied with electricity from the nearby hydroelectric power plant "Tobl" as well as with wood pellets from the surrounding woods. This means the shortest possible transport routes for us.
The house is insulated with 14cm insulation. All windows and doors are triple glazed, including wood-aluminium frames. Each residential unit is equipped with a decentralised ventilation unit including heat recovery.  This guarantees maximum living comfort at low energy consumption.

Our focus was on using as many local building materials as possible. For example, the slate tiles in the bathrooms and the wellness area come from nearby Pfunderer Valley, wood from local forests, etc.

In order to waste a minimum of resources, we have had all our outdoor lighting and the lighting in the wellness area made from the remains of the steel beams that are no longer needed.
We deliberately refrain from any kind of printed advertising.
All the appliances in the house are at least energy class A.

Since there was no need for a photovoltaic system, we decided to install extensive roof greening. A variety of plants flowering at different times are a paradise for insects, especially for bees – a beautiful sight in the middle of a special flora and fauna. The substrate used for this purpose does not require any watering but it stores a lot of water during heavy rainfall. The remaining rainwater as well as the water from the bathing pond are  channelled into an underground basin and are used for watering the garden if necessary.

Our organic waste is turned into valuable compost in the communal depot and, if necessary, recycled in our garden.  Artificial fertiliser is therefore not necessary.
Waste separation is well thought through. This makes it possible to recycle great quantities.
Due to the supply of the best spring water (drinking water) from the tap, it is not necessary to use plastic bottles.

In planning:

We are currently working on a concept that will enable us to exchange, via the floor heating, the heat stored in the house during the hot months with the temperature of the bathing pond. This would allow us to air-condition the flats and at the same time raise the water temperature in the pool.
